Prabowo Subianto’s Experience with Pak Sutiyoso
Pak Sutiyoso graduated from the ’68 Academy, and as a junior, Prabowo Subianto had seen him from a distance in Kopassus. While Pak Sutiyoso was in Group 2 in Magelang, Prabowo Subianto was in Group 1 in Cijantung and in Batujajar. Although their paths did not cross often during their service, it is known that Pak Sutiyoso was involved in various operations, including infiltration operations in East Timor under Pak Dading Kalbuadi.
Pak Sutiyoso is known for his sense of humor and his involvement in many operations. He is also famous for his hobby of shooting moving targets.
When Pak Sutiyoso, who was serving as the Operations Assistant of Kopassus at the time, called Prabowo Subianto, he proposed that Prabowo become the Commander of Pusdikpassus in Batujajar. Despite aspiring to become the Commander of the prestigious 17 Airborne Brigade, Prabowo Subianto agreed to Pak Sutiyoso’s request in order to influence the quality of Indonesia’s elite forces at the Education Center in Batujajar.
During Prabowo’s tenure as the Commander of Pusdikpassus, Pak Sutiyoso provided significant support. Described as a very patriotic person, Pak Sutiyoso is known for his loyalty to Indonesia. He also has a talent for making jokes, and Prabowo Subianto considers him a mentor who nurtured him during his time in the military.
